Kirklees Council buildings energy bills have increased more than 900%
Kirklees Council service director for finance, Dean Langton conducted a presentation regarding the council’s financial management of energy. The presentation was given to the overview and scrutiny committee on the 2nd of August.
The presentation showed how much energy costs had risen as a result of the global energy crisis which also highlighted the largest buildings draining the council’s recourses.
A 946% energy cost increase was generated by Huddersfield Town Hall when comparing the years 2020/21 to 2022/23.
These are truly shocking figures, however a British manufacturing company called HeatingSave could help cut energy bills by 25% to 50%.
HeatingSave is installed at Barnet Council and Dudley Council as a measure to effectively reduce the running costs of various council-run buildings within their respective areas.
Richard Hall, Senior Project Manager of the councils energy consultant said, “…to try to reduce energy cost expenditure, make each site more energy efficient and cut gas bills, the overall goal was to make the sites more efficient and ultimately save them money on running costs”.
"There are a number of BMS (building management systems) companies about but HeatingSave is pretty unique. "It is a niche in the market which is what attracted us to use it in the first place” he added.
HeatingSave have invented a computerised AI heating management system, approved by the Government on its Energy Technology list. It helps to cut gas consumption by better managing the heating plant and equipment that venues already have.
