New BBC show reveals how hospitality operators are coping with rising costs

Rising Costs

Popular celebrity chef, Tom Kerridge has been behind the scenes at UK pubs a restaurants educating the public on how businesses in the hospitality sector are managing with rising costs. The show is called ‘The Hidden World of Hospitality’ and can be viewed on BBC two.

Tom Kerridge told the BBC, “There hasn’t been any positivity or good news in three or four years, every day feels like you’re walking uphill, on glass, barefoot.”

Challenges faced by businesses in the hospitality sector are price of food, rent, mortgage payments and energy bills.

The good news is that one British manufacturing company called HeatingSave, which is part of Tensor plc, could take some weight off the shoulders of pubs and restaurants by saving them 25% to 50% off energy bills.

The Government approved HeatingSave software has AI algorithms that calculate and learn the heat-loss profile of every room. It sounds a bit scientific, which of course it is, but this then is used to cut wasted energy leading to lower gas consumption, all by better managing the heating plant and equipment that pubs and restaurants already have. Venues that have rented room make particularly big savings.
